sam_4175A short sample of Casablanca: Music, architecture, modernity, subculture and more… reboot.fm was invited to join a discussion about the future of radio and the internet at the Boulevard Festival’s studio and event space Boultek. Along with our radia.fm partners from Jet.FM Nantes, Radio Campus Paris, Radio Grenouille Marseille and Byte.fm Hamburg, Piradio Berlin and ON3 Munich, reboot.fm team members Diana McCarty & Noémie Cayron spent three days discussing radio models and the role of radio. Inspired by the research of Tom Avermaete, Serhat Karakayali, Marion von Osten for “In the Desert of Modernity” we tried to follow the path of modernist architecture in Casablanca - but its a place where plans don’t always work. The days and nights were spent exploring a city that is reinventing itself. Just ten years after the metal scene was imprisoned (and freed by a Judicial
intervention from the King) there is a small but vivid scene around alternative culture. From heavy metal, to hip hop, to dubstep, to guerilla filmmaking and feminist interventions, a few thousand people showed up to celebrate the victory of their occupied cultural space - Les Abattoirs - (slaughterhouse) not being turned into a parking lot. A festival with three stages, studios, jam sessions, discussions and more. Of course, in the future, Boulevard radio will take it to the airwaves. For now, tune in to get a glimpse of the future.
