CHEAP Sex Lizards. You turn the corner and there they are. You’ve been trying to avoid them for weeks, even months now. Lockdowns have helped. One long lockdown would have been better, of course, a lockdown that actually said: we value human life more than the life of capital. COVID Zero. However, even it could be enough to stop COVID 19, it’s difficult to imagine what would stop the sex lizards. They just can’t get enough. They have to go somewhere. So they slither along in your direction. CHEAP Funk. CHEAP Sex Lizards.

That’s a picture of the infamous Jerome Caja! She was known particularly for her cantankerous, blasphemous artworks which consisted of miniature paintings on found objects such as tip trays, using nail polish as paint.
The photo was taken at San Francisco Gay Pride 1996, in the Civic Center after the parade. Note the puss print brazier and stocking, the kielbasa sausage chained to her neck.

Hi Jim,
Many thanks for writing in! We at CHEAP, the art collective who do this monthly broadcast are big fans of Jerome and love your photograph. DJ Nancy and I lived in SF in the early 1990s and saw Jerome often at Club Uranus and around the city. Vaginal Davis, of course, also knew Jerome. Your photo captures her with a typically inventive fantastic costume. Since our show is dedicated to Sex Lizards, we thought back to Jerome and your photograph - also play a short clip of Jerome talking to Joan Jett Blakk (another fabulous one!) in our radio show.
Just a little correction to what must be a typo above: your photograph is from 1990, right? Jerome died already in 1995
THANKS AGAIN, Jim and warm wishes from Berlin,
Marc (Siegel)
