Everything is Sound with Fossilised Frequencies

The second edition of Fossilised Frequencies’ acoustic triptych is entitled, ‘In the Beginning Was the Word’. This session offers a listening journey through different religions, spiritualities, and knowledge systems’ ways of hearing God.

If in the beginning was the word

and that word was God.

Then first there was sound.

And God is sound.

17:00-18:00 The Systems of Sound

WITH Nkisi, Kelly Krugman and Arlette-Louise Ndakoze

We welcome sound artist, DJ, and producer Nkisi to SAVVYZΛΛR for travels into music and inquiries into Decolonising Sonic Knowledge Production, a research topic initiated with the Goethe-Institut programme of Latitude on Air. SAVVYZΛΛR’s Kelly Krugman and Arlette-Louise Ndakoze talk with Nkisi, tracing the potencies of sound as routes to voicing ancestral lineages and mythic and cosmic narratives, as acts of resistance. We reflect on how we can attune ourselves to the waves of ancestral music and sound that resonate through time and space. With Nkisi, our mind, ears, and body are invited to open our senses to the powers of imaginaries, stemming from plural epistemologies – in particular in this session, perceptions of sonorous motion and philosophies embodied in ancient Dogon knowledge and Bantu cosmology. With music from her album, 7 Directions, and her DJ set during the SAVVYbrations, our 10 year anniversary in 2019.

This session is brought to you on air as part of our collaboration with Latitude on Air and the Berlin Radio Network (Cashmere Radio, reboot.fm, We are born free! Empowerment Radio, BLN.FM, radiomobile, and SAVVYZΛΛR).

Nkisi is the alias of Melika Ngombe Kolongo, an electronic musician, producer and artist. Her ongoing sonic research focuses on rhythm as ancestral technology and sound as multi-dimensional intelligence.
