New African electronic music, many examples from East and Central Africa, as well as the current epic sound from South Africa known as Amapiano clearly indicates, points to a general direction away from the monorhythmic domination of African American beat structure and its Western offshoots, toward increased embrace of motherland poly-rhythmic traditions.
